Greetings! My name is Margaret Berry and I am a Midwestern artist working in the encaustic technique.

My artwork is part of an ancient tradition which combines beeswax, damar resin and pigment into a hot paint.  Used by the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, encaustic means to burn in with fire and I use a torch to fuse luminous wax layers. Primarily a painter, I also incorporate natural collage materials and photographs into my work.  The smell, sensuous feel and unlimited possibilities of beeswax create the perfect playground for capturing the magic of the natural world.

My art reflects my childhood spent mostly outdoors on a fertile Nebraska farm. I treasure the early access I had to so many natural materials, the big sky, sweeping view and changing seasons.  You can see those in my artwork today.

Thank you for visiting my website, and I hope to connect with you soon!

Testimonial

"Wonderful show at the Lauritzen Gardens!  I love the encaustic process and just wanted to touch - but didn't! I kept pacing back and forth in front of your works because the different angles of the light kept making various colors glow and others pop out that if I stood straight on were hidden until I moved."                             -Christine Fiore, Film Producer
